I Couldn't Think of a Clever Title

I’m not going to lie. I used to be obsessed with vampires. I’ve seen every single Twilight. I’ve watched almost every single episode of Vampire Diaries. True Blood and The Originals were good ones as well. I was first introduced to vampires from a True Blood episode. I was scrolling through iTunes when I had my blue iPod Nano and there was a free episode. (I loved the word FREE even at a young age). Once I was introduced, I was lowkey hooked for all middle school.

When I began this book, I imagined Harker as the human from Hotel Transylvania and Dracula as Dracula from the movie. The movie kind of mirrors the book. Jonathan stumbles upon a hotel strictly for monsters. NO HUMANS ALLOWED! Dracula did his best to hide Jonathan from the other hotel residents, but Jonathan ended up falling in love with his daughter.

            Like all the other books this is my first time reading Dracula. I immediately expected it to be like all the other vampire stories I’ve encountered. But that wasn’t the case. The way the book describes Dracula shows almost immediately THAT HE ISN’T HUMAN. Harker is very stupid and he literally put himself in the position be captured and fed on. Yeah I understand that he was sent there to close a transaction with Dracula, but if a man looking like that answered the door. I would be going in the opposite direction.

            Harker reminds me of people in horror movies. He went exploring, basically seeking danger. Honestly if I would have seen a human CLIMBING on a wall like a lizard, I would have dipped. There was no way I would go try to find out what’s up. He saw Dracula IN HIS COFFIN and he still didn’t go anywhere. Why? My guy you have got to do better.

            Dracula in fact was a bit spooky. I think it portrayed vampires in the way they were meant to be portrayed. Vampires now are sometimes depicted as soft. Like in twilight and Vampire Diaries. The Vampires in each of the vampires are softies because of a female. It’s cute and all, but if you’re a vampire shouldn’t you be a ruthless being?

            All together I like the way the book was composed. I like the way it jumped from journal entry to journal entry. It kept me intrigued. I also like how EVERYONE kept a journal. Only because not a lot of people keep journals now.

            

They remind me of my siblings and I

I'm not going to lie. Even though I read the book prior to watching the Lizzie Bennet diaries, I thought I was real. But after two episodes I realized it wasn't. I honestly think that's what made me like it so much. Before actually starting the vlogs I already had my mind made up I'm not going to like this. I didn't actually enjoy the reading. But once I started them, I couldn't stop. But it still baffles me that these videos and the book are so popular. It's like a whole level of fan girl.

I think out of the whole show I enjoyed Lydia the most. Even though I relate more to Lizzie in a sense. Lydia kind of reminds me of my brother, Isaiah. Isiah is the youngest of three kids and he’s charming, much like Lydia. No, I’m not calling my brother a slut nor am I saying he hooks up with multiple people in the corner of a bar. It’s just the way he acts that causes me to think of him as Lydia, the younger annoying sibling. But most times I don’t look at it as annoying. Why? Because he’s been doing this his whole life and he’s simply showing me that he loves me and he wants to be around me.

Jane reminded me of my older brother, Lennard. Mostly because he’s the only Jackson sibling that’s on tract to get married in the near future. He’s also the perfect child who could possibly do no wrong. Setting the standard for the next siblings to follow. It can either be a good or bad thing. Most times it’s a bad thing, simply because every child has their own personalities. Jane and Lennard remind me of each other because they both have a quiet nature about them. Whenever Jane appeared on the videos, she always seemed to be a quiet individual.

I related to Lizzie a lot. I’m blunt, I tell it like it is most times. I’m also my dad’s favorite but that’s mostly because I’m the only girl. But much like her, I don’t always see the good in people right away. Like her whole situation with Darcy, she didn’t see that he was a nice guy. When she first met him, he was snobby and that kind of threw her off. I do the exact same thing. If I meet someone and they are a bit rude towards me I will immediately brush them off, failing to see the good in them. 

Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice is an interesting read. I still don’t know how I feel about it completely. Its set in a different time, a period where women were supposed to marry for money and not love.

                Personally, I like Lizzy Bennet. I like her because she is very self-aware. She knows what she wants out of life and she knows she won’t take much shit from anyone. She doesn’t want to end up with someone who doesn’t make her happy. I liked how she turned down two wedding proposals from Mr. Collins even if it meant she would be financially stable. Not only did she turn down Mr. Collins, she also turned down Mr. Darcy.

                Although she turned down Mr. Darcy’s wedding proposal, I didn’t find it surprising when he made it known that he liked her. Honestly the way he acted towards her, with all the attitude, it was kind of a giveaway.  It kind of reminded me of when kids are young and boys don’t know how to express they like a girl so they are mean to them. Although this is complete rubbish, it still reminds me of it.

I don’t think I like Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy. I also don’t like Mrs. Bennet. I don’t like Mr. Darcy because he is arrogant and thinks he is better than everyone. This isn’t a great aspect to have because usually no one will like you.  I don’t like Mr. Collins because he moved on so quickly after Lizzy said no to his wedding proposal. I mean yea she didn’t want him, but he didn’t have to move on like that. Mrs. Bennet isn’t my favorite because all she cares about is getting her daughters married. Yeah I understand during that time women wanted to make sure their daughters were taken care of but you don’t have to parade them like that. Don’t get me wrong, I like the fact that she wants nothing but the best for her daughters, but the way she goes about it as all wrong.

                Overall I don’t know exactly how I feel about the book. I am just waiting to see who Lizzy ends up with, if she even decides to get married. Honestly I don’t even think she’s that interested in finding a mate. I truly believe her sisters will marry before her. But yeah I don’t have any STRONG feelings of hate or love towards the book. 

Its so Corny

                Oh boy I’m really not enjoying this. I knew there was a reason that I have not seen West Side Story on my own. I wish there was a way I could unsee something, because I really did not enjoy this movie. There was way too much singing and dancing for me. Oh my gosh. I do not like musicals, Caprice tried to tell me that watching a Disney movie was the same thing. IT IS NOT THE SAME (don’t fight me on this)! I tried so hard to pay attention for the purpose of homework. Believe me I tried VARY HARD.

                First of all, before I get into anything, how are you going to call yourself a gang with some soft ass names like Jets and Sharks? For real, when you hear the word “gang” you don’t think of a plane or an animal.  LMAO, honestly there’s two strikes against this movie. First strike it’s a musical and the second strike is its some type of love story. HERE WE GO AGAIN with this love at first sight mess. Honestly there’s no such thing. There is like at first sight. How can you know you love someone the moment you meet them?  I think Bernardo was acting like any brother to be honest, but it was too extreme. He didn’t have to stab Riff.  If any of my brothers acted like he did I would be LIVID.

                They really did the most. Maria dumb, if the guy I love hurts or even kills one of my brothers there’s no way I’m begging them to stay with me. That’s DEAD. I don’t care how much you're trying to tell me you love me and want to be with me. I don’t care how much you apologize to me, THERE IS NO WAY I WILL BE WITH YOU AFTER THAT!

                Anita pissed me off too. How are you going to act like you understand how Maria feels about Tony and then switch up the message like that? Now Tony looking dumb asking Chino to kill him when the whole time Maria is just being questioned by the police. But if you think about it, Tony ended up getting what he asked for. He died by the hand of Chino.  My thing is, did Maria really love him? Because my mans is dead, doesn’t that mean she’s going to move on?

But like Romeo and Juliet, the two feuding sides were brought together by death. 

Romeo and Juliet

I am not going to sit here and front like this is my favorite Shakespeare play. To be honest nothing from Shakespeare is my favorite. I don’t actually enjoy Romeo and Juliet. Why? There are so many other ways to be together, other than killing yourselves, if your families are sworn enemies. I’ve never even read the play before being in this class, it doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest. It still doesn’t appeal to me but I’m reading it for the purpose of this assignment.

Love stories are not particularly my favorite, especially one that ends in death of the lovers. A good love story would have been finding a way to be together, alive no matter what. Like in my favorite rendition of Romeo and Juliet, Romette and Julio by Sharon M. Draper. The two lovers started a relationship but everyone around them were against it because he was Hispanic and she was African American. They didn’t let other people opinions stop them from being alive and together. It is a great read, by an amazing author. I recommend it!

But for real in reality who falls in love that fast? My mans Romeo more than likely had skeletons in his closet Juliet didn’t know what she was getting into. When her mother first asked the first time if she was ready to start thinking about marriage, she said no. She should have stayed with that answer; relationships are stressful especially at that age. She’s not even grown yet!  

Juliet needed a strong independent black woman in her life. To tell her marriage was not the moves at the young age of 14. Now my mother didn’t even allow me to have a boyfriend at the fragile age of 14, yet alone marry someone. Someone needs to talk to her mother because it’s not okay.

I’m pretty sure the only thing I am really enjoying about this play is the fact that it’s always a fight on sight. Act 1 starts off with a fight. You can tell they are real enemies, usually everyone is all talk and no action. I hate that about people, I mean if you’re really “down each other’s throats” then there should be some actions to back up your words. Am I right? Believe me I’m all for an action scene especially in situations like this. It still confuses me as to why they are enemies, but for the most part I don’t really care because they fight.
