So So

I loved the beginning of Dracula. Stoker did a fantastic job describing the trip to the castle, Dracula and his scary and gloomy castle. I felt as if I was with John Haker on his journey throughout this novel. I also loved the format Stoker used. Going from Pride and Prejudice too Dracula was a real change. Being able to hear different stories form each character was great. Listening to each characters journey and opinions give me insight into each of there life's. the descriptive writing used completes Dracula's image. It allows the reader to visualize everything happening in the novel.
My only issue with the novel is the ongoing couple of chapters where there is no action. I was reading and reading and wasn't at all intrigued in the story line.

After reading the novel, I was skeptical of the Lizzie Bennet diaries. I'll admit that watching the you tube series and reading the novel definitely projects different opinions of some of the characters. I was excited to see how the diaries compared to the novel. The Lizzie Bennet diaries definitely helped me visualize the characters and there personalities. While it took me awhile to understand the characters and their personalities while reading Pride and Prejudice.

After a couple episodes the series just seemed a big gossip blog. Although the series was meant too watch two episodes a week and I watch it all within a couple days. I can definitely see why the diaries could have been such a successful show. The first half of the series was dragged out a bit for my tastes. The second half really started to get interesting. When Lizzie started incorporating different locations and setting it didn't seem as repetitive as the first half which really helped a lot.

Pride and Prejudice

              This my first contact with this novel. I have heard about it a couple times before but had no knowledge of the plot or of its characters. The first couple chapters, the book was pretty boring and seemed to be dragging out the story. The introduction of characters was very confusing to me. One after another it seemed like there was at least ten characters thrown at the reader. It was difficult to keep track of them. That is one of the griefs I have with Pride and Prejudice and Jane Austin. After the characters had stuck, it was a whole lot easier to follow the plot.

                Once I understood the characters, the plot of the story began to make since. I do like Lizzy Bennet and the way she handles her situation. She is capable of making her own decisions. Which seems to be a struggle of her sisters for some reason. I also enjoy the fact the she turned down the wedding proposals from Mr. Collins. She knew that excepting the proposal she would be financially stable. But, she wouldn't be truly happy being with him. Happiness means more than money for her; which is a trait others seem to oversee in this story.

               Mrs. Bennet is a good mother for the wrong reasons. She pushes her daughters to marry as fast as possible to the man with the most money. She overlooks the emotional aspect of relationships. Which it seems only Lizzy can comprehend.

Romeo/Gatsby

This is my first time reading Romeo and Juliet. This however is not my first experience with Shakespeare (Macbeth in high school). Although, neither of these two plays have peaked my interest; I would prefer Macbeth if I had to choose between the two.  I have never seen any of the plays in theatre or on film; but I would love to watch Romeo and Juliet on either platform. It would be interesting to see if watching the play on stage or on film could change my mind.

The theory of the love at first sight in Romeo and Juliet first reminded me of the relationship between Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan in F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great Gatsby. Gatsby like Romeo fell in love with his significant other at a young age. Gatsby moved away form Daisy and became a very successful business man. Although the story plot has its differences, the love connection between the two couples is completely parallel. I am a firm believer in love at first sight. Although very rare, I believe that it is possible to deeply love and care for a certain person by simply seeing them. Love has no boundaries, not even death.

Before reading this play for myself all I knew was that the two loved each other and committed suicide as the only form of being together after life. After reading the play I now see how to pressure from the two family ultimately led the two to their suicide. I think that no matter what the two could do there was no way the two could be together peacefully with there family difficulties. The suicide of the two reminded me of the Hunger Games. As Katniss and Peeta were the last to survive. Knowing that only one could survive and the other dead they agreed it would be better both dead than to live without the other. In both cases suicide isn't the logical answer. I think that Romeo and Juliet knew that if they were both dead was the only way to insure that they would forever be together.
