In middle school I participated in the play Dracula and thought it was a pretty cool story. Now reading it again, I think it is awesome. All the girls I went to middle school with pretty much ruined vampires and stuff for me when Twilight was the big thing. I just always had to think of vampires as sissies that sparkle in the sunlight or whatever they do lol. But after reading most of Bram Stoker's Dracula, vampires are pretty badass. Dracula brings so much fear and curiosity to everyone in the story.

I did become pretty surprised in class and reading fellow classmates' blogs on how Dracula is a representation of immigrants raping english women (if I have that right) back in the day. It all made sense and made me sad because now I can't look at vampires the same :/

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed with the ending of the Elizabeth Bennet Diaries compared to how awesome the ending was in the original Pride and Prejudice. OG Elizabeth Bennet is suppose to be a sassy independent woman that ain't need no man, especially Mr. Darcy! At the end of the book she sees good in him and ends up liking him yadayada… But she never acted like she messed up by not liking him before. I think the diary really made her look like a wimp version rather than a total bad-ass in the book.




Despite the ending, I think they did a great job modernizing the diaries since the book and movie are both a tad outdated. I have a passion for watching movies but this movie made me sleepy. The cast of the diaries (particularly Lizzie) was very energetic and made it exciting and very funny. The one part that really bothered me was the fact that the scenery barely ever changed (understandable considering it's a vlog/diary). I thought the whole Lydia sex-tape disaster was a very modernized edition of her eloption. Again, a big difference from the book that bothered me a little was how she came running back to the family knowing that she was wrong. In the story, although much sadder for the family, she pretty much says F U to the family and runs of with the biggest dingus ever, Wickham. I feel like the whole point of her interaction with Wickham was to ruin the image of the family without any remorse. Instead, she feels bad and isn't a back-stabber.

All in all, this series was freaking cool. I think that it is absolutely incredible how this series was created by a grad student and a few friends who really like Pride and Prejudice. I find that to be very inspiring and should encourage creative people to re-create their favorite book! I think making it a vlog was genius and hilarious for some reason lol. Lizzie had me laughing the whole series.

Pride & Prejudice :^)

                This is my first time ever reading Pride and Prejudice. I must say that I have enjoyed reading this book thus far. I have found a real liking for Elizabeth in the story because she doesn’t settle with the social norms that her society tries forcing on her. Many women at this time are marrying men that they may not truly love and are committing to them for their wealth. Elizabeth denies the proposals of Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy, a huge shocker for both of the snobbish men. I admire that no matter how rich or handsome a man could be, Elizabeth will only marry that person if they prove to make her happy.

              

 I find Mr. Darcy to be one of the most interesting characters in the story. At first, I was not a fan of him at all. I thought of him as just an arrogant @$$hole. But eventually he started to remind me of Barney Stinson from How I met your Mother and I found him hilarious ever since. The way he carries (in the movie) and thinks of himself is so outlandish it is honestly humorous to me. Throughout the story, I feel that he really makes the reader start to care for him. He proves that he is not so bad after all through a few generous acts of kindness towards Elizabeth.

             
 At first I also had a hard time really liking Ms. Bennett. I did not like how she was raising her daughters how to marry so poorly. After reading further, I started to really find the mother-love in her. I know my mother has tried everything she can to raise me right and brighten my future. I finally saw that Ms. Bennett wants that same joyous future for her daughters. She wants her daughters to have a better adulthood than she has had and she really proves to be super unselfish for her daughters. 

Sherlock Elementary

     I think Elementary is a pretty neat show based off the episodes I was watching. I really liked how they tried to change it up a little bit from the original Sherlock Holmes stories like having Dr. Watson being a woman (which was questionable to me at first) and how Holmes is a recovering addict. I honestly think the Watson character in Elementary brings more to the table than Dr. Watson in the Original stories. I think she is brilliant and helps Sherlock more than in the book. I really like the thought of Sherlock not being so perfect. It's cool to know that he has a dark past behind him that might change his way of doing or figuring out things. Although Sherlock Holmes being more mysterious and unknown in the books, it is much more enjoyable of an experience having some source of background information on him than not knowing too much at all in the books.

     Something from Elementary that brought me back to the books was the thrill I had watching Sherlock solve these insane mysteries. While reading the books, I would usually be bored to death until Holmes would explain how he solved his mystery but watching the show I felt truly engaged to every mystery the entire time. I could honestly see myself watching this show regularly since it's so exciting.

SHERLOCK HOLMESSSSSSS

I was super excited to finally read a little bit of the Sherlock Holmes series as I have never had the pleasure of reading Conan's work. Being completely honest, I have to say I didn't dig it too much. I tried so hard to like it because I always thought of Sherlock Holmes as a bad ass detective. While reading A Study in Scarlett, I found part 1 to be fairly interesting, but I found the end to be fairly weak. Maybe I read the end wrong and didn't grasp the awesomness to it, but I wanted the investigation to come together more smoothly. I wish we could just go into the mind of Sherlock during the investigations, then it would make more sense.

I found little joy in part 2. I did like how Holmes credits his discovery of the suspect through "reasoning backwards". I thought it was fun how it came together.

I am very excited for class tomorrow to listen to my classmates' views on these stories so I can grasp more ways of looking at Sherlock Holmes. But as of right now, I'm not sold.

Friar Lawrence is EVIL

Hey everybody, how we doing? I am surprisingly excited to talk about Romeo and Juliet right now because I personally think acts 3, 4, and 5 are utterly insane. After having Shakespeare thrown in my face all throughout high school and even late middle school, I have finally found an interest in one of his plays. I am not necessarily sure whether I even like Romeo and Juliet, but I definitely find it compelling.

Friar Lawrence: I find this gentleman to be very, very suspicious. I think Juliet is insane for even considering Friar Lawrence’s reckless plan for uniting her and Romeo. These characters did not live in a world where you could practically spawn a private conversation to explain things to people like what we have in cell phones today. Trusting a hand-written message to successfully transfer to the hands of Romeo is very irresponsible, especially for a man that Shakespeare writes to appear as a wise man.

Plot twist: Shakespeare shows no obvious evidence to convey that Friar Lawrence is evil, but maybe I missed something? Maybe Shakespeare hid a side story (like Star Wars’ Rogue One) of Friar Lawrence in his home that gave more of his backstory to prove that he is evil and wants trouble and death for the immature couple.

The Death/End: I find Romeo to be one really dumb guy. First, he is in love with a very young girl (gross), and he proves how immature he is in the very beginning of the story. In the beginning of the story, it is apparent that he is head over heels in love with a woman named Rosaline. Romeo is quite devastated that Rosaline does not love him back. It is mind boggling to think that after a few hours of mourning the forbidden love of Rosaline, he falls back in love with another woman! The worst part is that he even goes as far as to kill himself over the young girl he was in love with for a few days. I love that there was an epic sword fight scene at the end between the two Juliet lovers. Although the reader naturally roots for Romeo, I find myself feeling bad for Paris. Paris was very dumb and even arrogant, but he never did anything out of line in my eyes. I believe he truly was in love with Juliet and it is a damn shame that he got ‘played’ all throughout the story.
